Wichita Mountains Schutzhund

Located at the gateways to the Wichita Moutains,
Cache, Oklahoma. The Wichita Mountains
Schutzhund Club has been in existence for more
than 10 years as a training group under the umbrella
of the Texoma K-9 Training Center. Police k-9
trainers, sport trainers, and canine enthusiasts have
gathered for years in this part of Southwest
Oklahoma nicknamed Texoma to train their dogs.
As a club our goals are to achieve, training for our
members, titles for our dogs, the abilities to
compete, and the opportunity to do so.
Schutzhund is a three-phase sport involving (A)
tracking, (B) obedience, and (C)protection.
Obedience in the sport is present in all three phases,
and is very important in phase (C) the protection
phase. Obedience is the foundation for all training.
Schutzhund is a team event. Our goal is to teach the
dog and handler to function as a team, each with its
own responsibilities as a team member. Our aim is
to help the handler and dog achieve the highest level
they are both capable of attaining and develop a
working relationship.
Since Schutzhund is a three-phase sport, members
are expected to participate in all three phases. In
other words, if tracking and obedience are not apart
of the handler's training program, then the handler
and dog will not be permitted to participate in the
protection work. Naturally, all dogs mature at
different rates. Thus a training plan may at times
focus more on one area or another. We will assist
you in designing a training plan that best meets the
needs of you and your dog.
As a training club, our goal is to train you to train
your dog.
As a club, we strive to function through teamwork.
As a member of that team, we expect the handler to
learn through observation and participation with
others. Some of the responsibilities of the handler
will be to ask for and seek guidance and to
participate in the training of the other canines. As a
functioning part of the whole team, we encourage
handlers to ask questions. It is sometimes difficult
for handlers to know how they are handling their
dogs, and how the dog is responding to the handling
techniques. Thus we encourage the handler to ask
one of the experienced members or a trainer to
watch your training and assist or guide as needed. It
is our aim to help you teach your dog properly from
the beginning.
